Kildee trying to secure $50 billion loan for auto industry

U.S. Rep. Dale Kildee, D-Flint, takes his seat after speaking at the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce's Congressional luncheon Friday. Kildee told business leaders at the luncheon that earmarks in appropriation bills have gotten a bad rap as "pork." He said he's working to get money for local projects, and a $50 billion loan guarantee for the auto industry.

New religious store opening in South End

FAITH & FAMILY: Located inside a portion of the former Trinity Evangelical Lutheran School at the corner of Broadway and 32nd Street, Amazing Grace Bookstore will carry books, Bibles, teacher supplies, sacred music, clothing, jewelry, cards, games and gift items. The store will open Sept. 15, and host a grand opening Oct. 4 and 5.

SVSU president signs onto movement to discuss lowering the legal drinking age

Saginaw Valley State University President Eric R. Gilbertson has added his name to a growing list of college presidents who believe the legal drinking age of 21 is not working. The Amethyst Initiative is a national movement started by college and university chancellors and presidents who say that underage youths continue to drink despite it being illegal, and that many college students engage in dangerous binge drinking.
