U.S. Rep. Dale Kildee, D-Flint, takes his seat after speaking at the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce's Congressional luncheon Friday. Kildee told business leaders at the luncheon that earmarks in appropriation bills have gotten a bad rap as "pork." He said he's working to get money for local projects, and a $50 billion loan guarantee for the auto industry.

Saginaw Valley State University President Eric R. Gilbertson has added his name to a growing list of college presidents who believe the legal drinking age of 21 is not working. The Amethyst Initiative is a national movement started by college and university chancellors and presidents who say that underage youths continue to drink despite it being illegal, and that many college students engage in dangerous binge drinking.
