Schmitt sets NCAA record in EMU upset of CMU

Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour, right, threw for 378 yards and four scores, but it wasn't enough against Eastern Michigan.YPSILANTI -- Eastern Michigan sent its lame- duck coach out a winner Friday in a wild 56-52 win against Central Michigan that dimmed the Chippewas' bowl chances.
In addition to the drama on the EMU sidelines, there was plenty on the field, including taunting incidents before the game and at halftime started by Eagles players that required coaches and referees to break up the altercations.
And during the game, Eastern's quarterback, Andy Schmitt, set an NCAA Division I passing completion record, and receiver Tyler Jones tied the NCAA Division I record for receptions.

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette never practices shooting free throws. The Golden Eagles got all the work they needed at the line against Central Michigan anyway.
Wesley Matthews went 10-for-10 on free throws and scored 18 points, Dominic James added 15 points and No. 25 Marquette bounced back from its first loss with an aggressive defense that stymied the Chippewas in an 81-67 victory Tuesday night.

Dayton erased a nine-point Central Michigan second half lead to squeek out a 78-76 win over the Chippewas in the opening round of the Buckeye Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
Britni Houghton led four Chippewas in double figures with 21 points while Brandie Baker had 13 points, Angel Chan 12 points and Skylar Miller had 10. CMU falls to 3-2 and meets Boston University at 11:30 a.m. today in the consolation game.
Jeff Genyk caps Eastern Michigan career with game against rival Central Michigan

Jeff Genyk wants to finish with a win.
Central Michigan University doesn't want to finish.
Eastern Michigan University fired Genyk as its head coach, effective at the end of the season, which comes Friday for the Eagles when they take on rival CMU at noon at Eastern Michigan.

Robbie Harman hit a 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds to play in overtime, as Central Michigan defeated Wright State 70-68 on Saturday.
Harman scored nine points, including a 3-pointer with seven seconds left in regulation to force the extra frame.

Ball State quarterback Nate Davis (13) celebrates the Cardinals' victory over Central Michigan on Wednesday that preserved BSU's undefeated season.MOUNT PLEASANT -- Championship teams convert even the most brow-arching fourth-and-inches decisions, control fourth quarters with indomitable running attacks and win every time. If Ball State should continue meeting all those standards, it wants the opportunity to prove itself alongside other champions.
The task is not complete but, at 11-0, with the Bowl Championship Series ratings featured on the cover of their game notes and with a Fiesta Bowl representative on hand for Wednesday's 31-24 win against Central Michigan -- two weeks after the Orange Bowl also scouted them -- the Cardinals no longer can skirt the topic.
