    Genyk leaves showing little class

    by Steven Rosso
    Tuesday December 02, 2008, 11:21 PM

Eastern Michigan head coach Jeff Genyk knew his team's game against CMU would be his last. In doing so, Genyk pulled out every stop apart from the playing field. The showboating he had his team do was embarrassing. From taunting the CMU players on the field before the game, to bringing everyone on the field for a timeout, to having his own players toss official's penalty flags, it was all the act of a bitter coach having his own pity-party. Drew Ellis has a good recap of the game's events, in one of the wildest games in a long time.

November 29, The Morning Sun Following the Eagles second score that put the game at 14-0, Genyk stepped onto the field during the timeout and raised both his arms while staring at the CMU sidelines and shouting out unknown words. Continue reading "Genyk leaves showing little class" »

YPSILANTI - Freshman guard Natalie Novosel scored a career-best 18 points off the bench and Lindsay Schrader added 17 and 10 rebounds Tuesday night to help No. 11 Notre Dame stay unbeaten with an 83-63 victory over Eastern Michigan.

The Fighting Irish (6-0) led by as many as 19 points early in the second half before the Eagles cut the lead to 59-50 with 9 minutes to play. Notre Dame answered with six points and three steals in the next 2 minutes to push the lead back to double digits for good.

Eastern Michigan should hire George McDonald

by Graham Couch | Kalamazoo Gazette blog
    Tuesday December 02, 2008, 3:53 PM

Former WMU assistant basketball coach Cornell Mann once told me that Detroit Mercy should hire a basketball coach that players really want to play for. Nobody goes to the corner of Livernois and McNichols just for the opportunity to play.

It's why Mann would have been a good choice to be the Titans' coach last spring, why Ray McCallum was ultimately chosen and why Perry Watson, who no longer had that characteristic, was all but asked to leave.

CANCUN, Mexico - A trip to paradise didn't help heat up Eastern Michigan's shooting.

Freshman Tavelyn James scored a team-high 17 points and Tara Johnson had her first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles, who lost to James Madison in the tournament's first round Thursday.

    EMU wrestlers bounced by Buffalo

    by From Local Reports
    Wednesday November 26, 2008, 6:43 PM

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team started and finished strong, but couldn't win anything in between in a 26-8 loss to Buffalo on Wednesday.

Jordan McGuire started the match with a win at 125 pounds and David Wade won at 285, both by major decision, for EMU (1-4, 0-1 Mid-American Conference). In the eight matches in between, the Bulls (5-1, 1-0) won six decisions and two major decisions.

"We are in a funk right now, and it is up to these guys to find out what it takes to win," EMU coach Derek DelPorto said. "It's a matter of finding something within us to gain momentum."
