Historic Sazerac Bar to host opening ceremony of Tales of the Cocktail

Tales of the Cocktail, a cocktail and culinary festival celebrating the history and culture of dining and the cocktail in New Orleans, has chosen The Roosevelt New Orleans as the site of the July 8, 2009, opening-night reception for its seventh anniversary event.

Tales of the Cocktail runs through July 12, 2009.

75th Anniversary of 'Repeal' celebrated in New Orleans

On Dec. 5, 1933, Dewar's became one of the first liquors to be served legally in the country. On Dec. 5, 2007, the brand will commemorate this significant time in U.S. history by kicking off the 75th anniversary year of "Repeal Day."

New Orleans hosts first annual Songwriters Festival

Songfest Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce the first ever New Orleans Songwriters Festival. The event also, also known as "Songfest," is being sponsored by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), which has been representing songwriters, composers and publishers since its inception in 1914.

Children can learn about photography at World War II Museum

Children ages 9 to 12 on Saturday can attend a National World War II Museum photography workshop, being held in conjunction with the exhibit, "Lives Remembered: Photographs of a Small Town in Poland, 1897-1939." Participants receive a guided tour of the exhibit and learn the basics of photography.

St. Andrew's Day Festival celebrated at Bacchanal

St. Andrew was the first apostle and is the patron saint of Greece, Scotland, and Russia. His feast day Andrzejki (pronounced an-dzey-ki) is also the biggest party day of the year in neighboring Poland, celebrated on the night of the 29th through 30th of November.

Traditionally, the holiday was only observed by young single girls, though today both young men and women join the party to see their futures - and to drink enough to forget the present at the moment as well!
