Biogas plant needs Flint Township approval

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Michigan--When Flint, state and Swedish officials including King Carl XVI Gustaf, gathered Sept. 26 at Kettering University to tout the advantages of the Swedish Biogas International plant, they missed one major detail.
No one seemed to know Flint's wastewater treatment plant (where the biogas would be made) sits on Beecher Road east of Linden Road -- in Flint Township, said Tracey Tucker, economic enhancement director for Flint Township.

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Michigan -- Jamil Hamady was a business man through and through.
Whether it was owning his own business as a young man in Lebanon or working for the family business, Hamady Bros. grocery stores in Flint, or as the founder and owner of The Bread Basket on Corunna Road, business was always on Hamady's mind.
Hamady, 78, of Flint Township, died Thursday. The cause of death is unknown, but he suffered from Parkinson's disease and heart disease.

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Michigan -- The small tan home on Herrick Street may forever be known as the house of drugs and death.
The home where a 38-year-old mother of two died on Aug. 9 from a drug overdose is the same place where two Flint Township men -- including her husband -- were found Tuesday.

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Michigan -- Almost one year exactly after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, Brenda Thompson of Flint laced up her white walking shoes Saturday and kept a promise to her family, her co-workers and herself.
Just days after her diagnosis in October 2007, Thompson's doctor told her then-11-year-old daughter that her mother would be at the Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk in 2008 and that the two of them would take on the 3.5-mile trek together.

Wearing his U.S. Marine "dress blues," Lance Cpl. Ian Thomas married Krista Moore on Oct. 4.

FLINT TWP. -- It was 1948, there were no malls and downtown Flint was the place to shop. Pat Wallace was hired for her first job at the Singer sewing machine store on Saginaw Street.
Sixty years later, Wallace is still selling the machines and teaching customers how to use them at All Sew on Miller Road.

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Michigan -- Eddie Ballard's palate is happy he found a new eatery on Miller Road.
"I'm a regular," Ballard, 28, of Flint Township said of Happy's Pizza.
It is the third Happy's in Genesee County -- others are at Clio and Pierson roads and on South Dort Highway in Burton.
