    by The Associated Press
    Friday October 10, 2008, 11:00 PM

Chris Stroud celebrates a birdie on the 13th hole during Friday's second round of the Texas Open.

SAN ANTONIO -- Former Lamar University star Chris Stroud moved into position to make a big jump on the PGA Tour money list, shooting a 6-under 64 on Friday to take a two-stroke lead after the second round of the Texas Open.

The 26-year-old Stroud, 209th on the money list in an injury-plagued season, had a 10-under 130 total on the La Cantera Golf Club's Resort Course.

A two-time All-America selection and four-time Southland Conference player of the year at Lamar in Beaumont, Stroud had three birdies and a bogey on the first five holes, added a birdie on No. 9 and also birdied 11, 13 and 15.

Nathan Green shoots 62 to lead Texas Open

    by The Associated Press
    Thursday October 09, 2008, 11:00 PM

Nathan Green watches his tee shot on the 15th hole during the first round of the Texas Open on Thursday.

SAN ANTONIO -- Nathan Green got off to a rocky start Thursday in the Texas Open. It ended up jump-starting the best round of the Australian's PGA Tour career.

"I didn't feel really good before the round started and then on the first hole I snapped my drive. It hit a rock and bounced back in the fairway," Green said. "From there, everything went pretty well."

Winless in three seasons on the PGA Tour, Green birdied nine of the first 16 holes before dropping a stroke on the par-3 17th and closing with a par for an 8-under 62 and a two-stroke lead over Olin Browne and Paul Claxton.

Rookie Johnson stuns Allenby at Turning Stone

    by The Associated Press
    Monday October 06, 2008, 11:00 PM

Dustin Johnson got to hoist the winners trophy after birdieing the final two holes at Turning Stone to secure his first PGA win.

VERONA, N.Y. -- When the final round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship began, six players near the top of the leaderboard had a chance at that elusive first PGA Tour victory. Rookie Dustin Johnson was the last man standing.

The long-hitting Johnson birdied the final two holes Sunday, sinking an 8-foot putt on the final hole to beat Australian Robert Allenby by one shot.

"I started off the year really well and then I don't really know what happened," said the 24-year-old Johnson, who had two top-10s in his first four starts and then missed nine cuts and withdrew from two other events. "Me and my coach sat down about a month ago and set some goals. I practiced hard and tried to get my game back."

Ridings, Howell share Turning Stone lead

    by The Associated Press
    Saturday October 04, 2008, 11:00 PM

Tag Ridings chips onto the 17th green Saturday. Ridings shares the lead at the Turning Stone Championship with Charles Howell III.

VERONA, N.Y. --Tag Ridings stood over his ball at the final hole and gently tapped a short uphill putt for par. When he pulled it and his ball stopped just shy of the cup, he found himself tied for the lead in the Turning Stone Championship.

Seeking his first PGA Tour win, Ridings wasn't dismayed as he pondered playing the final round in a twosome with Charles Howell III.

"I putted really well, especially the first two rounds," Ridings said Saturday after shooting a 1-under 71 to match Howell (69) at 8 under. "Today, I made a couple that kept me hanging in there."

Overton still leads after two rounds at Turning Stone

    by The Associated Press
    Friday October 03, 2008, 11:00 PM

VERONA, N.Y. -- Jeff Overton said he felt like he was back in college. He played like it, too.

The former Big Ten player of the year at Indiana shot a 3-under 69 on Friday to take a one-shot lead over Tag Ridings (68) in the blustery second round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship.

Playing through wind, rain and even a brief shower of hail, Overton was at 8-under 136. Two weather delays totaling nearly an hour and a half prevented the entire field from finishing before darkness fell, but Overton's lead was safe.

VERONA, N.Y. -- The sky cleared just in time for Jeff Overton.

Janson, ex-member sue Egypt Valley for $5 million

by Greg Johnson | The Grand Rapids Press
    Thursday October 02, 2008, 8:00 AM

ADA TOWNSHIP -- Former Egypt Valley Country Club golf professional Lynn Janson and Roger Boer, his attorney and a suspended club member, said they are not out for revenge.

But Boer has filed two lawsuits in Kent County Circuit Court seeking a combined $5 million-plus in damages from the club, individual members and a former general manager.

"I absolutely begged them to make good on Lynn losing his job and future retirement, and really to help the club members who have been hurt because of past management mistakes by the board members, and they have ignored us," Boer said.

Villegas goes back-to-back at PGA events

    by The Associated Press
    Sunday September 28, 2008, 8:24 PM

Camilo Villegas, of Colombia, reacts after winning the Tour Championship golf tournament in the first hole of a playoff Sunday.

ATLANTA -- A two-putt par to win the Tour Championship in a playoff was worth an extra $1.5 million to Camilo Villegas.

A 7-iron to a scary pin on the 71st hole, under more pressure than he has ever faced?

    That was invaluable.

Villegas overcame a five-shot deficit with six birdies on his final 11 holes of regulation -- the last one after going at a dangerous flag on the 17th -- and won the Tour Championship on the first extra hole against Sergio Garcia for his second straight victory.

"Winning is awesome," Villegas said after closing with a 4-under 66.

Garcia builds three-shot lead at Tour Championship

    by The Associated Press
    Saturday September 27, 2008, 10:15 PM

Sergio Garcia tips his hat to the crowd as he approaches the 18th green during the third round of The Tour Championship PGA golf tournament Saturday.

ATLANTA -- The cheers weren't as loud, but Sergio Garcia had heard them before.

Six days ago at the Ryder Cup, he was helpless as Anthony Kim fired at flags and birdied nearly half his holes in a 5-and-4 romp that revved up the gallery during an American victory.

It looked like more of the same early Saturday at the Tour Championship, especially when Kim made everything in sight to build a three-shot lead on the front nine at East Lake. This time, fortunes turned in the Spaniard's favor.
