Johnson: Azinger 'brilliant' as Ryder Cup captain

    by The Grand Rapids Press
    Monday September 22, 2008, 11:00 PM

Greg Johnson says Boo Weekley, right, could be the next John Daly in terms of popularity on the PGA Tour.

Grand Rapids Press columnist Greg Johnson joined Bill Simonson inside the "GR Press Box" to talk about the United State's victory over Europe in the Ryder Cup.

"It was funny how (U.S. captain Paul) Azinger split them up into really three different foursomes, and kept them that way all week," Johnson said. "He put the country club guys out first, he put the country guys in the middle and he put the quiet, silent guys at the end.

"He thought this was the best way to make them into a team and it worked. It actually was pretty brilliant."
