    Griffins drop to 0-4 against Admirals this season

    MILWAUKEE -- The Grand Rapids Griffins still can't figure out a way to beat the Milwaukee Admirals.

    Stephen Werner scored twice in the third period to lift the Admirals to a 3-2 win at the Bradley Center on Tuesday night.

    The Griffins are 0-6-1-1 in their past eight games against the Admirals, including 0-3-1-0 this season. Grand Rapids, which lost 5-4 at Milwaukee on Sunday night, is 8-1-1-1 against the rest of the American Hockey League this year.

    Griffins fall to Admirals after furious second period

    MILWAUKEE -- It took one minute for the Grand Rapids Griffins to tie the Milwaukee Admirals.

    Three minutes later, one goal undid the Griffins' hard work.

    The teams scored a combined six goals in the second period, and Milwaukee scored last for a 5-4 victory against the Griffins at the Bradley Center.

    Griffins beat Quad City, keep pace in AHL North

    MOLINE, Ill. -- The Grand Rapids Griffins are keeping pace with the top teams in the AHL North Division.

    Shaking off a second-period goal by the Quad City Flames, the Griffins struck back with three scores of their own in the third period and beat the Flames 3-1.

    Grand Rapids now has an 8-2-2 record and 19 points, four points behind the Syracuse Crunch and Hamilton Bulldogs and three points behind the Manitoba Moose, who played Toronto on Saturday.

    GRAND RAPIDS -- Coach Curt Fraser expected a hard-fought battle in the Grand Rapids Griffins' first-ever game against the Hartford Wolf Pack.

    He didn't come away disappointed.

    Jakub Kindl scored the game-winning goal with 8 minutes left to lift the Griffins to a tough 3-2 win at Van Andel Arena on Friday night.

    Griffins' Stafford records 200th point of career

    GRAND RAPIDS -- Garrett Stafford was a little perplexed as to why his presence was requested by the media following the Grand Rapids Griffins' 3-2 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday night.

    The defenseman had no idea that he had just recorded the 200th point of his American Hockey League career.

    "Really?" Stafford said. "I didn't know that."

    Goalie Howard eager to return to Griffins' lineup

    GRAND RAPIDS -- Jimmy Howard is itching to get back into the lineup.

    The Grand Rapids Griffins goaltender suffered a bruised calf when a Peoria player collided with him late in the second period of the Rivermen's 5-3 victory Nov. 8. Howard finished the period, but was replaced to start the third by Daniel Larsson.

    Howard was not in the lineup during the Griffins' 1-0 win over the Houston Aeros on Tuesday afternoon, but coach Curt Fraser said he'll be ready to go Friday night against the Hartford Wolf Pack.

    Griffins rookie Pare makes most of opportunities

    GRAND RAPIDS -- Francis Pare can live with the nickname his Grand Rapids Griffins teammates have given him: Frankie Jr.

    Since the Griffins already had one French-Canadian named Frankie -- that would be left wing Francis Lemieux -- Pare gladly will take the junior tag over any other alternative.

    "It's better than when people don't know how to pronounce my name," Pare said.
