Detroit and Wayne County election results: Incumbent mayors hold on for re-election

While election results from the city of Detroit will no doubt dominate headlines today, here's a look at results from many important races across Wayne County:
  • Detroit Mayor: Challenger Tom Barrow made things closer than many expected, but Mayor Dave Bing won his first full term with 58 percent of the vote. (More)

  • Detroit City Council: Former-TV anchor man Charles Pugh finished ahead of the pack and will replace Ken Cockrel Jr. -- who finished fourth -- as council president. (More)

  • Detroit Charter Commission -- Freman Hendrix and Reggie "Reg" Davis were among the top nine vote-getters and will help rewrite the city charter. (More)

  • Detroit Board of Education: Incumbents Marie Thornton and Margaret Betts narrowly lost their re-election campaigns, and two new faces will join the board. (More)

  • Detroit Proposal S: Voters approved the $500.5 million bond that will use stimulus dollars to construct eight new schools and renovate 10 others. (More)

  • Detroit Proposal D: More than 70 percent of voters supported the proposal that will change the way city council members are elected to include seven by-district seats. (More)

  • Brownstown Township Proposal: Voters approved the 2-mill increase to curb firefighter layoffs and help balance the budget by only four votes. (More)

  • Ecorse Mayor: Herbert Worthy didn't bribery accusations get in the way of him and re-election (More)

  • Dearborn Council: Only one newcomer managed to join a pack of incumbents on the council. Doug Thomas lost his seat to Brian O'Donnell. (More)

  • Hamtramck Mayor: Mayor Karen Majewski held of a strong challenge from Abdul Algazali to win re-election. (More)

  • Harper Woods Mayor: Incumbent Kenneth A. Poynter easily defeated challenger Anthoney Wimbush (More)

  • Romulus Mayor: Incumbent Mayor Alan Lambert held off challenger Harry Crout. (More)

  • Southgate Mayor: Joseph Kuspa  received more than twice as many votes as Dennis Davis, a former mayor. (More)
