    Harbor Beach man dies in fall from tree stand

    HURON TOWNSHIP -- A 33-year-old Harbor Beach man died Sunday after he fell 25 feet trying to take down a tree hunting stand, Huron County sheriff's officials say.

    Scott D. Booms was with his two sons and a brother-in-law when he fell in a wooded region near Kaufman and Parisville about 2 p.m., Sheriff Kent D. Tibbits said.

    Michigan medical marijuana act leaves patients in limbo

    A law that lets people in pain use marijuana has left those procuring the illegal drug in a legal haze.

    The Michigan Medical Marijuana Act forces qualified patients and caregivers to get medical marijuana and seeds from illegal black-market dealers, proponents say.

    Saginaw, Michigan, shootings leave one dead, two wounded

    Three shootings in Saginaw left one person dead and two others wounded, police said.

    Police about 2 p.m. Friday responded to a home near Hadley and 15th to find Riginald L. Morris, 36, on the lawn with one gunshot wound, police said.

    Saginaw, Michigan, police investigate 'suspicious' death of man

    Saginaw police weren't saying much about the "suspicious" death of a man Friday evening.

    Police responded to a 911 call indicating gunshots were fired near Hadley and 15th about 6:30 p.m.

    Mom/daughter duo helped police find the Amber Alert suspect

    Joy N. Fath stared in disbelief while stopping for gas Tuesday morning at D's Party Store in Oakley.

    "I saw three little girls in the back seat of this car," said Fath, 27, who was with her mother, Lucinda S. Shooltz, 50. "One of the girls was standing in the back seat. And I saw this man putting air in the (vehicle's) tire.

    Joy N. Fath, 27, and her mother Cindi S. Shooltz, 50, both of Chesaning Township alerted police to the where abouts of the Olguin girls after they recognized the suspect's vehicle from a description during an amber alert.

    St. Charles, Michigan, mom identifies bank robber as her daughter

    Ernestine K. Thiele was watching a noon TV news broadcast in July when an image on the screen shocked her.

    The person appearing on surveillance footage while robbing a bank earlier in the day looked like her daughter.

    Family mourns slain Saginaw, Michigan, mother of four

    Anna E. Guerra and her family have asked themselves why.

    On a day of Thanksgiving, they haven't found answers on why their daughter, niece, sister, mother and friend Erica L. Olguin died at age 32.

    Andres Hernandez, 28, of Saginaw and his wife Rachel Hernandez, 28, (fourth from left) are caring for murder victim Erica L. Olguin's children from left Victoria Olguin, 3, Elena Olguin, 8, Lilianna Olguin 5, and Adrian Gonzalez, 11. Rachel is Erica's sister. The couple plans to seek custody of the children.

    Saginaw County deputies arrest bow theft suspect

    Saginaw County sheriff's detectives arrested a 36-year-old Thomas Township man Wednesday on suspicion of stealing compound bows from Gander Mountain, 2270 Tittabawassee in Kochville Township. Saginaw Township police detectives assisted.

    Detectives believe the man stole five bows worth more than $3,500 over a three-day span and sold four to pawnshops. The suspect had one bow when apprehended at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Saginaw County Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Randy F. Pfau.

    The suspect is not employed at Gander Mountain, Pfau said.

    Buena Vista Township woman to face a charge in the death of her dog

    A Buena Vista Township woman could face up to a year behind bars in the death of her dog.

    Authorities say Latoyia L. Jackson, 829 S. 24th, did not care for her 1-year-old pet, who died in late October tied to a tree on a chain "heavy enough to tow a semi-tractor or trailer."

    UPDATE: Police search for three missing Saginaw girls; mom found dead

    Three missing Saginaw girls were in "extreme danger," according to an Amber Alert authorities issued after police found her mother dead Monday. The alert was for Elena Olguin, 9, Lilliana Olguin, 5, and Victoria Olguin, 3, said Saginaw Police Detective Sgt. Brent VanderHaar.

    The alert is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies, news agencies and other businesses to seek the public's help in assisting in the search for serious child-abduction cases.

    "Domestic homicide" suspected in death of woman in Saginaw; 7-Eleven robbed; Pedestrian fatally struck in Gladwin County

    The death of a woman that Saginaw police originally viewed as "suspicious" now is receiving attention as a possible "domestic homicide," said Detective Sgt. Mark Lively.

    Authorities found the woman's body at 2804 Maplewood on Friday. Police have made no arrests and have no suspects.

    Police in Bay, Midland counties to have extra holiday patrols

    Extra officers will patrol for drunken and unbelted motorists over the Thanksgiving holiday.

    Police in Bay and Midland counties, plus 23 other counties, will conduct daytime safety belt enforcement and nighttime impaired driving patrols Monday Nov. 24 through Sunday, Nov. 30.

    First-grader killed crossing Swan Creek Road

    The family of a Merrill Elementary School first-grader is mourning the youth's death Friday evening. A vehicle struck him as he crossed Swan Creek Road in Fremont Township, Saginaw County Sheriff's deputies said.

    The incident took place about 5:30 p.m. A 36-year-old Chapin Township man was driving his small SUV west on Swan Creek, east of Steel, when the collision occurred, said Lt. Paula Lounsbury.

    Three may face charges in beating of a Harbor Beach man over missing beer

    BAD AXE -- Police have jailed three men they say brutally beat a man after their beer turned up missing.

    Jared Jurgess, 21, of Harbor Beach suffered head and facial injuries when three men attacked him as he left a party on Canboro near South Elkton in the wee morning hours Nov. 9.

    Authorities said a 22-year-old Bad Axe man could face charges of felonious assault with a beer bottle, and that a 34-year-old Pigeon man and 23-year-old Elkton man likely will face aggravated assault charges.

    Investigators said the attackers claimed someone stole their beer, surrounded Jurgess, knocked him to the ground and beat him.

    Isabella County prosecutor considering whether to press charges in CMU fraternity brawl

    MOUNT PLEASANT -- Isabella County prosecutors were sorting through a 127-page police report on a brawl outside a Central Michigan University fraternity house.

    The 2 a.m. Oct. 12 donnybrook at Delta Chi left at least three combatants with injuries including broken noses, a concussion and cuts that required stitches.
