Rosenthal on WDFN: Still too hard to say if Tigers can sustain winning pace

    by Philip Zaroo | MLive.com
    Wednesday July 02, 2008, 12:40 PM

Despite the Detroit Tigers' recent tear to crack the .500 mark, Ken Rosenthal isn't sold on the pitching depth. Moreover, says the Fox Sports baseball analyst, the team's parts just don't seem to click.

"When you look at them," he tells Sean Baligian on WDFN's It Is What it Is, "you still see the potential for a tremendous offense, which we have seen from time to time. But the rotation – (Nate) Robertson, (Kenny) Rogers – it's just not a dominant-type rotation.

"And while the bullpen should be better once (Fernando) Rodney and (Joel) Zumaya get their legs under them, as I mentioned, the injuries, the different range issues, it's just not a team where all the pieces seem to fit together. And that's a problem I've had with them from the beginning."

Listen to the whole interview to hear Rosenthal's expectations of Jeremy Bonderman:

Illich, Dombrowski and Leyland apparently figured that a massive offensive lineup would off-set an average pitching staff. It could work but the pieces keep falling down. We're not getting the run production necessary and we're committing too many errors to be effective. With a few more runs Verlander could have a winning record.
Consider though, even with the lack of consistant offense, too many errors defensively and pitching that has been terrible at times, we're still in the hunt! Our subs have had some reps due to the injuries and the vets have had some rest, again due to the injuries along with Leylands help. Why he rested everyone except Ordonez is a mystery. The glass is still have full.

Is anybody else getting this stream sped up, as if the Chipmunks are talking baseball? It's funny, and in a way, more interesting then it would be at normal speed.
